Beyond Words Neshima Dane Company new dance theatre piece, funded by Arts Council England, performed across the south west and at The Place between November 2011-January 2012, receiving fantastic reviews. With a refreshing irony, Beyond Words clearly communicates the complexities of the inability to speak. The dancers talk; sometimes to no one, sometimes at each other, always with the intention of wanting to be heard. Words are shouted confidently, they are whispered and they always take the form of answers to questions that nobody asked. Elbows jerk and backs bend as words try to escape from bodies any way possible. Even as the lights fade, all six individuals vie to be heard through snippets of conversation, paradoxically completing Neshima’s jigsaw of a dance’.

Natalia Okeke, Resolutions 2012

Dancing in Tongues (2010) Neshima’s first professional tour funded mainly by Arts Council and Bristol City Council. This was a hugely successful tour including 2 highly energetic and vibrant contemporary dance pieces, ‘See What You Say’ ‘Jigsaw’ incorporating speech, physical theatre, and original musical scores. Alongside delivering a high quality education residency at 8 performing art schools, Dancing in Tongues performed at The Brewery Theatre with 4 sold out shows, at the Bristol Harbourside Festival and at Resolutions 2011 with fantastic feedback.
